After noticing there was no plug-in or extension for Firefox that would notify people in real time of the latest solar flares, I decided to create Solar Flare Alert! This extension will allow you to see the latest solar flares as they happen and notify you instantly. The software places a little panel in your status bar and displays the latest solar flares as they happen. Here is what you will see when it has been installed:
If you right-click on the status bar panel, you will see a menu pop-up that allows you to view the 10 most recent solar flares and the magnitudes as well as date for each of them as shown in the following image:
